The Mitsubishi Outlander has taken over the European market of best-selling plug-in-hybrid, but may not reach its hype in other parts of the world.

The primary selling point of Mitsubishi PHEV is its multipurpose all-wheel-drive plug-in-hybrid. It is designed with special powertrain engineering.

However, when you consider the 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV staid design, dated tech, and ho-hum performance, you may not be too impressed if you live in the US.

2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Features and Design

The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes as a third generation of Outlander plug-in-hybrid for five passengers.

The model offers two trims: the SEL-S and the GT-S that makes use of the Mitsubishi’s Super All Wheel Control all-wheel-drive system.

These models have a 2.0-liter, a four-cylinder engine and two 60-kilowatt electric motors at each axle. The 137-lb.-ft. of torque and 190 horsepower are channeled through a one-speed direct drive transmission.

These trims also come with a plethora of, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, standard advanced driver assists, and forward collision alert with pedestrian detection.

We cannot forget that they also have ear cross-traffic alert and auto high beams. The SEL trim offers two extra USB ports in its rear cabin.

For the GT trim, it features a heated steering wheel, a multi-view camera, dual AC power outlets instead of the rear USB ports, LED headlights, a powered sunroof, and adaptive cruise control.

The GT trim also has an upgraded sound system, an optional GT Premium Interior Package (leather) and black cabin accents.

The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV shows off an EV badge and a second door flap plug-in for a three-prong 10A wall socket.

Both trims feature standard 8-inch touch display with Bluetooth, Android Auto  and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration.

They feature SiriusXM satellite radio and HD Radio. For the GT models, they have the Mitsubishi Power Sound System upgrade with eight speakers instead of six.

We should let you know that the infotainment system of the brand is less intuitive to use and dated.  This infotainment system does not have a variety of options available.

Performance

The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV lasts 25 electric-only mile round trip for  daily commutes. This depends on turning off systems that compete for power and the terrain used.

On the highway, the model offers 24 miles of electric-only range. The brand makes use of resistive heating technology common in to heat the front seats and the steering wheel.

It also works in preconditioning the interior temperature while plugged in for it.  Riders can switch between the model’s three modes for effective management of fuel.

The Eco Mode can increase the electric and fuel usage for the car’s maximum efficiency.  The Battery Save Mode works when the battery pack falls below 90%.

In 2018, the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid was a game among crossover hybrids. However, the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid did not come alone.

 It has more competition that has given it a run for every of its feature, especially the Honda CR-V.

Luckily, for the Toyota model, its 2019 model came with a complete redesign with more attractive exterior, more power, a high-quality interior, and better fuel efficiency.

It has the coveted Apple CarPlay. For the 2020 model, it added the Android Auto to keep it ahead of the others.

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid has a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that was paired with an electric motor.  It has a motor powering its rear wheels’ loss of traction.

It does this through a continuously variable automatic transmission.  The car operates with an EPA-estimated fuel economy and 219 horsepower.

The car’s gas engine charges this RAV4 lithium-ion hybrid battery, and this is achieved through a regenerative braking.

The Base LE Trim

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE trim has exterior fitted with LED headlights, daytime running lights, 17-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, roof fails, power and folding outside mirrors.

In addition, it has a  keyless entry and intermittent windshield wipers.

Some of its standard interior features include a manual six-way adjustable driver seat, automatic climate control, power windows and doors fabric-trimmed seats.

Other interior features include four-way front-passenger seat, a tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio controls, 60/40-split folding rear seats with adjustable recline, and a rearview camera.

The standard tech has a six-speaker audio system with AM/FM HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, voice recognition, 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid mirrors are integrated with blind spot and turn signal indicators, variable speed intermittent wipers, and remote illuminated entry.

The XLE trim also features the blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, automatic headlights, push-button start, and an eight-way power driver seat with lumbar support.

A sunroof, upgraded fabric upholstery, four additional USB charging ports, and two in the rear seats complete car.

The 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE Trim.

The XSE adds a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch black-painted wheels, two-tone exterior paint, an 8-inch touch screen, and a power liftgate.

Next, it is equipped with dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, simulated-leather upholstery, upgraded interior trim, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

Riders enjoy its auto-dimming rearview mirror, dynamic guidelines for the rearview camera, and interior ambient lighting.

The Limited Trim
